Youths and residents from Agege and Orile Agege areas of Lagos State have thrown their weight behind the potential candidacy of Gbenga Abiola, popularly known as Agbelebu, for the Lagos State House of Assembly, Agege Constituency I, calling on party leaders to support his ambition.
The endorsement came during a well-attended coordinators’ meeting of the Agbelebu Solidarity Forum (ASF), where participants expressed unity of purpose and urged stakeholders within the All Progressives Congress (APC) to provide the necessary backing for Agbelebu to contest in the forthcoming elections.
The meeting, which drew youths and community representatives from across the constituency, was marked by a strong display of support, with attendees highlighting the need for inclusive representation and continuity in grassroots development. Agbelebu was described by supporters as a grassroots-oriented leader with a track record of community engagement and public service. They noted that his experience in local governance positions him to effectively represent the constituency at the state assembly level.
In addition to his role in local government, Agbelebu also serves as the National Coordinator of the Tinubu Media Front, a platform known for mobilising support and promoting the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Supporters at the forum said his involvement in national political mobilisation further underscores his capacity to attract development opportunities to the constituency.
Speakers at the meeting stressed the importance of unity within the party, urging leaders to prioritise candidates who enjoy widespread grassroots acceptance. They argued that selecting a candidate with strong local backing would enhance the party’s chances of maintaining its electoral strength in the constituency.
The forum concluded with a collective appeal to party leadership at both state and national levels to consider the views of constituents and adopt a consultative approach in the selection of candidates. Participants reiterated their commitment to mobilising support and sustaining engagement within the community ahead of the electoral process.
Observers noted that the growing support for Agbelebu within Agege and Orile Agege reflects broader conversations around representation, inclusion, and effective leadership at the grassroots level in Lagos State politics.
