The All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth League has urged party leaders to adopt Muyiwa Gbadegesin as a consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.

In a statement issued by its Diaspora Director, Adebayo Oketooto, the group said the party must present a candidate with proven competence, wide public appeal, and the capacity to challenge the incumbent administration led by Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The group stressed that internal ambitions within the APC should be subordinated to the broader goal of reclaiming the state, noting that the 2027 contest would require a candidate capable of inspiring confidence across party lines and among key voter groups.

According to the Youth League, Gbadegesin possesses the technocratic expertise, political experience, and governance exposure needed to lead Oyo State at this stage of its development.

It highlighted his academic background, including degrees from Howard University and Georgetown University, as well as his experience in public service. The group noted that he worked under Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Babatunde Fashola in Lagos State, contributing to reforms in land administration and revenue systems.

The statement also referenced his service under the late Abiola Ajimobi, where he held roles including Commissioner for Health and Deputy Chief of Staff, adding that he initiated key healthcare reforms during his tenure.

The group further cited his current position as Managing Director of the Lagos Waste Management Authority as evidence of his administrative capacity in managing complex public systems.

It added that Gbadegesin is gaining support among young professionals and stakeholders in Oyo State, describing him as a bridge between experienced leadership and future-oriented governance.

The Youth League called on other aspirants within the APC to unite and rally behind his candidacy, warning that internal divisions could weaken the party’s chances against the ruling PDP.

It also urged party leaders and stakeholders across the state to begin consultations aimed at presenting a united front ahead of the election.

The group disclosed plans to mobilise support for Gbadegesin, including the formation of a youth support movement to drive his emergence as the party’s candidate.
