Residents and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oshodi-Isolo yesterday stormed Oremeji Street, Mafoluku in large numbers for the declaration of Taiwo Ayedun, popularly known as Shanana, for the House of Representatives seat in Oshodi-Isolo Federal Constituency I.

The event set the stage for what many observers described as a keenly anticipated political contest.

The declaration, held amid great enthusiasm, attracted a massive turnout of party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters who gathered in their hundreds to witness the unveiling of his ambition. The atmosphere was charged with excitement, reflecting the growing support base of the aspirant within the constituency.

Ayedun, addressing the crowd, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming show of solidarity and confidence in his leadership.

He noted that his decision to contest was borne out of a deep desire to serve the people and contribute meaningfully to the development of the constituency.

He emphasized the need for responsive representation, promising to prioritise the welfare of constituents through effective legislation, empowerment initiatives, and infrastructural advocacy if elected into office.

Ayedun said: “I have lived there all my life and have never, at any point, been removed from its realities. Oshodi is not a story I was told; it is the life I have personally experienced.  I understand, firsthand, the daily struggles of traders, artisans, transport workers, and young people striving to survive and succeed. I have walked the same streets, faced similar challenges, and shared in the resilience that defines our people. This lived experience has shaped my vision and informed my legislative priorities.

“My focus as a lawmaker would be providing practical solutions for Oshodi-Isolo constituents in the areas of economic empowerment, improved infrastructure, meaningful youths’ engagement, and strong social protection systems, especially for the aged and widows who are often the most vulnerable among us.

“I do not need to be briefed about Oshodi. I have seen its challenges, felt its struggles, and lived its reality. That is why I am committed to pursuing policies that will bring real, measurable change to the lives of our people.”

Party leaders who spoke at the event took turns to commend Ayedun’s loyalty and longstanding commitment to party ideals. They described him as a dependable figure whose contributions over the years have strengthened the party’s structure at the grassroots level.

According to several speakers, his antecedents as a committed party man and community mobiliser distinguish him as a strong contender capable of delivering victory at the polls. They maintained that his track record speaks volumes about his readiness for higher responsibility.
