The Academy of Innovative Research, Science & Technological Development (AcIRSTD) has announced its 3rd National Conference on “Achieving Socioeconomic Development in Nigeria through Science, Technology and Innovation”.

A statement by Lead Facilitator Prof. Akin Ogunsakin, said the conference would focus on leveraging STEM, research, and digital tools for national growth.

He said it is aimed at fostering a sustainable, secure, and smart economy by promoting innovation, industrialisation, and evidence-based policy implementation.

The event will be held at the Nigerian National Merit House, Maitama, Abuja, FCT on Thursday, March 26.

“The key objectives of the conference include but not limited to Contributing to the Federal Government of Nigeria Vision: Support the vision of a developed Nigeria by harnessing the power of innovation and research to drive progress; encouraging Innovation: inspire scientists, technocrats, academicians, social scientists, and innovators to contribute to national growth through sustainable practices; sharing cutting-edge scientific research, technological advancements, and practices that contribute to sustainable development across various sectors; foster strong partnerships between academia, industry, government, and civil society to advance sustainable technologies, research, and development;  emphasize environmental stewardship, resource efficiency, and solutions that promote harmonious coexistence between humans and ecosystems.

“Key aspects of the scope include: higher education excellence: essential for creating a skilled workforce, fostering innovation, and driving socio-economic transformation; Manpower Development: Crucial for addressing skill gaps, boosting productivity, and ensuring a competent national labour force; Agriculture Production: Provides a foundation for economic development and food security; Health: A key component of human capital development and overall well-being, contributing to productivity; Entrepreneurship: Promotes job creation, self-reliance, and innovation, which are vital for economic growth.

Funding and Commercialization: Necessary to turn innovative ideas into viable businesses and ensure the sustainability and impact of educational and research initiatives, and National Peace and Prosperity: The overarching desired outcome of these interconnected strategies,” he said.

The national conference is a recurring event that focuses on the role of science, technology, and innovation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

 This event is align with the UN’s High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) and will focus on advancing sustainable, inclusive, and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda.

It will address pressing national challenges related to the environment, climate change, disaster resilience, agriculture, food security, and advancing sustainable, inclusive, and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda.

Ogunsakin added: “The findings will contribute to appreciating the potential of science, technology and innovation to meet the most pressing sustainable development trials in order to fairly improve the operation of the “national innovation system” for sustainable expansion of technologies. The outcome will help to realize the potential of science and technology to address the most urgent challenges facing Nigeria.

Leading academic researchers, educators, scientists, researchers, technologists, innovators, industry professionals, and policy makers will gather together in this conference to discuss cutting-edge developments and strategies for advancing sustainability across science, technology, and education. This conference serves as a platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the promotion of innovative solutions to global sustainability challenges.”

 Ogunsakin said the academy will confer Fellow (FARST – Fellow Academy Researchers, Scientists & Technologists) on  well-deserved scholars, educators, scientists, researchers, and technologists at the event.

The Chief and Special guests/speakers expected at the occasion include the Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy;  Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation;  Minister of Education; Minister of Federal Ministry of State (Gas) Petroleum Resources; among others.
