Erommaose Nwokoro Foundation held its third graduation at Highstar Event Centre in Agbor, Delta State.

Entrepreneurship was centre stage as a pathway to economic freedom, self-reliance, and national development.

At the heart of this inspiring initiative is Dr Bernardette Nwokoro,  a woman whose passion, resilience, and commitment to social impact are rewriting the narrative for young people in the Ika nation.

The event, which drew young graduates, community leaders, and development advocates, featured an engaging entrepreneurial session moderated by Dr Anthony Nnamudi. The panel included Dr Jude Igborgbor, Dr. Donald Peterson, Dr Ngozi Mordi, Dr Solomon Egbule, and Mr Friday Memeh.

The panellists dissected  real-world issues surrounding entrepreneurship, from access to funding and market dynamics to resilience and scalability

Speakers gave depth, clarity, and practical insight, addressing today’s economic climate and the need for youths to reposition themselves.

Nwokoro comes across as a visionary who understands that empowerment is the most sustainable form of charity. Her mission is simple yet profound: equip young men and women with practical, income-generating skills and give them the confidence, and tools to stand on their own.

For three years, the foundation has been consistent in its outreach, engaging youths in skill acquisition programmes.

From pedicure and manicure to decoration, gele tying, cake making, hair styling, and sewing, participants are exposed to hands-on training not just to teach, but to transform.

But what sets the foundation apart is what happens after the training. Unlike many programmes that end at certification, the foundation goes a step further, empowering graduates with starter packs and seed capital to kickstart their entrepreneurial journeys.

Speaking on the philosophy behind the initiative, Dr Nwokoro noted that the foundation is fundamentally a philanthropic organisation, but one that goes beyond charity in its traditional sense.

“We are not just giving aid; we are giving people a chance to stand on their own,” she noted.

Through a structured tracking and mentoring system, past beneficiaries are monitored, guided, and supported as they navigate the realities of entrepreneurship.

According to her, this has become one of the Foundation’s greatest achievements, with many former graduates now thriving in their chosen vocations.

Chairing the event is none other than Dr. Donald Peterson, a renowned philanthropist and politician whose footprint in human capital development across Delta State continues to expand. A consistent financier and steadfast supporter of the Foundation, Dr. Peterson’s presence underscores the importance of partnerships in driving sustainable development.

He also delivered a keynote address on the theme: “Entrepreneurial Opportunities, Challenges and Growth in Ika Nation.”

Given his vast experience and practical engagement in entrepreneurship development, expectations are high that his address will not only inspire but also challenge stakeholders to rethink strategies for youth empowerment.
