The Federal Government has commenced the reconstruction of the Ado-Ekiti–Iyin–Aramoko–Itawure road, a major highway linking Ekiti State to the Osun State boundary.

The Ekiti State Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday.

He said the contract for the 56.18-kilometre road was awarded to Messrs CBC Global Civil & Building Construction Nigeria Limited, with a completion timeline of 24 months beginning from March 23, 2026.

Olatunbosun explained that the project would commence from Fajuyi Park in Ado-Ekiti and extend to the Osun State boundary, adding that the road would use reinforced concrete from the Police Headquarters axis to ensure durability.

He stated that construction has already commenced following the handover of the site to the contractor, with work currently ongoing around the Erio-Ekiti axis.

He described the project as a major boost to socio-economic activities in Ekiti State and the South-West region, noting that the road serves as a critical corridor for transportation and commerce.

“This project is not just about road construction but about improving livelihoods, enhancing connectivity, and strengthening economic integration within the region,” he said.

The commissioner expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the project, describing it as a fulfilment of his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development in Ekiti State.

He also noted that the initiative reflects Governor Biodun Oyebanji's efforts in attracting federal presence through sustained engagement with relevant authorities.

Olatunbosun, however, appealed to residents and motorists to cooperate with the contractor and adhere to traffic and safety regulations throughout the construction period.

He assured that the state government would provide the necessary support to ensure the timely completion of the project.
