First Lady Oluremi Tinubu yesterday flagged off the distribution of N12 billion palliatives to Muslim households across the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Christian communities across northern Nigeria had benefitted from a similar gesture on December 23, last year.

During the event, which was held in Kaduna, Mrs. Tinubu said the palliative distribution would be carried out through existing state coordinating committees to ensure effective and transparent delivery to the beneficiaries.

She described the intervention as a part of the broader social support efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to put smiles on the faces of vulnerable Nigerians.

The First Lady said the ongoing reforms were designed to deliver sustainable benefits to Nigerians for immediate and long-term benefits.

Mrs. Tinubu stressed that the current exercise was meant to extend the same gesture to Muslim faithful in the spirit of equity, inclusiveness, and national cohesion.

She urged communities across the region to continue to live together in peace, love, and mutual respect.

The First Lady stressed that unity remains the strongest pillar for overcoming the country’s challenges.

Mrs. Tinubu also urged religious and community leaders to sustain their role in promoting harmony by preaching peace and tolerance.

She said a united Nigeria is better positioned to surmount any difficulty.

The First Lady expressed appreciation to Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, and community representatives for their continued prayers and support for the administration.

Mrs. Tinubu described their contributions as vital to national stability.

The First Lady also hailed the Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs and Other Matters, Alhaji Ibrahim Masari, for his dedication and commitment in coordinating the programme alongside his team.

Formally flagging off the exercise, Mrs. Tinubu announced the distribution of 100 trucks of rice valued at N1.2 billion.

She prayed to God that the palliatives would bring relief and comfort to the beneficiary households and extended Eid-al-Adha greetings to Muslim families in advance.

Mrs. Tinubu wished them a season of joy, mercy, and abundance.

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani described the initiative as a reflection of compassionate leadership and national unity.

He said the President and the First Lady have continued to demonstrate commitment to the welfare of Nigerians through targeted social interventions.

“Together, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the First Lady exemplify a model of leadership anchored in service, compassion and national unity,” the governor said.

Sani added that his administration remained committed to cushioning the effects of economic reforms through support for small and medium enterprises, youth empowerment, agricultural development and sustained investment in security.

He urged the Muslim faithful to remain patient, united, and steadfast, especially in the face of prevailing economic challenges.

The governor also urged religious leaders and community stakeholders to continue preaching peace, brotherhood and mutual support across communities.

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni urged Nigerians to rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing that the success of the administration is inseparable from the progress and stability of the country.

The governor said the efforts of the First Lady and other stakeholders in supporting vulnerable citizens should be appreciated, noting that such interventions demonstrated their compassionate leadership at a critical time.

He noted that national unity remains non-negotiable, urging citizens to close ranks and work collectively in the interest of Nigeria.

According to him, there can be no meaningful individual advancement without a stable and united nation.

Buni also highlighted the growing strength of the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the ruling party has continued to record electoral successes across all geo-political zones.

The development, the governor said, underscored the need for members to remain committed and united.

He eulogised the First Lady for her compassion and unwavering support for the President, particularly in championing initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of vulnerable Nigerians.

Buni also urged the citizens to balance their rights with their civic responsibilities.
