Notably, a partnership with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) led to the launch of a youth agribusiness land trust fund, an initiative aimed at addressing unemployment by improving access to land and resources for young farmers. The programme reflects a broader recognition of agriculture as a viable pathway to job creation, particularly in rural communities.

Complementing this effort is an ambitious training initiative also developed with IITA, targeting millions of youths with practical agribusiness skills. The scale of the programme underscores the administration’s intent to move beyond policy rhetoric to measurable outcomes, although its long-term success will depend on sustained funding, monitoring, and market integration.

Beyond agriculture, Olawande has championed youth inclusion in emerging and creative sectors. A recent government initiative seeks to empower young Nigerians through tourism and the creative economy, industries increasingly viewed as drivers of economic diversification. Climate change and migration have also featured in the ministry’s agenda. A partnership with Stratcomm has been framed around scaling youth-focused climate and migration programmes nationwide. This initiative acknowledges the growing intersection between environmental challenges and youth livelihoods, particularly in regions affected by desertification, flooding, and displacement. By integrating climate resilience into youth development strategies, the ministry is attempting to address both immediate and long-term socio-economic risks.

In parallel, the Federal Government has launched a nationwide youth empowerment registration drive, targeting up to 20 million beneficiaries. While the scale of this initiative signals ambition, it also raises questions about implementation capacity, data management, and equitable distribution. Analysts note that such large-scale programmes require robust institutional frameworks to avoid inefficiencies and ensure transparency.
