The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, has described the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, as "a dogged fighter who is focused, committed and whose unrelenting efforts and sense of devotion in the vanguard of making Yoruba traditional religion a reference point in global circles is inspiring, laudable and worthy of emulation."
He said the choice of Adams as the 15th Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland was a result of his unflinching commitment to confronting the Western world, through the Oodua Peoples’ Union (OPU), against misleading efforts that encourage Africans to disrespect, dishonour and abandon their cultural heritage.
In a release by his Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, to commemorate Iba Adams' 56th birthday, Alaafin lauded the Yorubaland generalisimo for his deep internal drive for competition or a cause, and for refusing to compromise his principles.
"The Aare Ona Kakanfo's strong sense of purpose is often driven by a need to protect, support, or fight for a cause or people he cares about, rather than self-interest.
"He continues to fight even when facing insurmountable odds, and walking through pain, ignoring fatigue, and keeps moving forward, regardless of the situation.
"He is indeed a Generalissimo with endless cardio and can maintain pressure for a long duration, making him effective over time
"He is focus-driven with a laser-like commitment to his goal, blocking out distractions, but remains calm, acting without panic or emotion.
"You have a rich history of political activism, it is, nonetheless, your love for the promotion of Yoruba cultural and traditional heritage. Your antecedents in the promotion of Yoruba culture are unquestionable, as you have a clear vision of where your fatherland should be in its cultural reawakening, both at home and overseas.
"In view of your undying and conscientious passion for the promotion of Yoruba culture and tradition, your appointment as the 15th Aare Onakakanfo was, no doubt, a befitting one.
"You founded Oodua Peoples’ Union (OPU) in 2011 as a body for Yoruba people in Diaspora and have since established branches of OPU in major countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, North America and South America. One of the most fundamental goals of the body is to foster unity and harmony among all Yoruba sons and daughters all over the world."
Congratulating Iba Gani Adams on his birthday, Oba Owoade went further, saying, "As a true visionary, your journey reflects a dedication to excellence that continues to set high standards for us all. You don't just age; you become more iconic. Thank you for inspiring millions with your passion and relentless determination. The world is simply brighter with you in it.
"Your grace, sophistication, and unwavering dedication define what it means to be a true role model. Wishing you a phenomenal birthday and continued success in every endeavour. Keep shining brighter than the spotlight."
