A socio-political group, Osun Progressives Youths in United Kingdom (O-SPYUK), has commended the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2026 election, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, for awarding full scholarships to the four children of a trader who died during a rainstorm in Osogbo.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by its Coordinator, Tunmise Ajiboye, the group described the gesture as timely and compassionate, noting that it would ease the burden on the bereaved family and secure the future of the deceased’s children.

The group recalled that Jamilat Ganiyu lost her life during a rainstorm on March 28, 2026, leaving her family in distress.
Following the incident, Oyebamiji visited the family during the Easter period to commiserate with them and pledged to take full responsibility for the education of the four children.
Ajiboye said the intervention reflects Oyebamiji’s commitment to humanitarian service and people-oriented leadership, adding that the gesture stands out when compared with other responses to the tragedy.

He noted that while Governor Ademola Adeleke reportedly offered a scholarship to one of the children, Oyebamiji extended support to all four, describing the move as a demonstration of empathy and responsibility.

“There is no doubt that Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji has consistently demonstrated empathy and a deep sense of responsibility to the people, both in his private life and public service. His decision to shoulder the educational burden of these children at such a critical time is commendable and exemplary,” Ajiboye said.
The group added that the scholarship initiative highlights Oyebamiji’s belief in education as a tool for empowerment and societal development, stressing that such interventions help restore hope to vulnerable families.
O-SPYUK urged individuals, political leaders and corporate organisations to support victims of natural disasters and unforeseen tragedies across the state.
While extending condolences to the family of the deceased, the group prayed for the repose of Ganiyu’s soul and encouraged the children to remain focused on their education.
The group also reaffirmed its support for Oyebamiji’s governorship ambition, describing him as a compassionate leader capable of delivering people-centred governance in Osun State.
