The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has directed all support groups operating within the party to undergo mandatory registration at the state level, in a move aimed at strengthening internal cohesion and improving electoral preparedness.

The directive, issued through the party’s Publicity Secretary, Muyide Kayode, has, however, drawn sharp criticism from the Asiwaju Mandate Group (AMG), which rejected the order and reaffirmed its independence.

In a statement signed by its Director of Communication, Ayodeji Ologun, the group said while such directives could ordinarily be received in good faith, the tone and content of the APC’s position reflected a “fundamental misunderstanding” of the structure and autonomy of established support groups.

AMG maintained that it is neither funded nor controlled by the Ondo State Government or the APC at the state level, stressing that no state structure has the authority to dictate its operations.

The group further stated that it is already duly registered and recognised at the national level in line with party provisions, noting that its recognition followed established protocols under the party’s national leadership.

“Any attempt to subject us to redundant or politically motivated local controls is unnecessary and unacceptable,” the statement said.

AMG also cited the APC constitution, which it said allows support groups to operate within the party’s framework as strategic partners in grassroots mobilisation, rather than as subordinate entities to state actors.

Highlighting its activities across the 18 local government areas of Ondo State, the group said it has been actively involved in voter education, volunteer mobilisation, community outreach programmes, and promoting the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The group criticised what it described as attempts by individuals with minimal grassroots involvement to assert control over established mobilisation structures.

While reaffirming its commitment to the APC, AMG emphasised the need for mutual respect and adherence to constitutional provisions in fostering collaboration within the party.

It added that it would continue to align with the party at the national level while contributing to the re-election efforts of President Tinubu and the overall success of the APC.
