A political advocacy group, Opomulero Movement, has called on Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to address what it described as a long-standing imbalance in representation within the Akure Federal Constituency.
In an open letter, the group’s Director-General, Olasupo Olakunori, said Akure North Local Government has not produced a member of the House of Representatives since Nigeria returned to democratic rule in 1999.
Olakunori said the situation raises concerns about fairness, inclusion, and equal political participation in the constituency.
"For nearly three decades, Akure North has remained excluded from federal legislative representation, which undermines the principles of equity and balanced governance," he said.
The group acknowledged Governor Aiyedatiwa’s efforts to deliver people-oriented programs across the state but urged him to use his influence to address the perceived imbalance.
It described the next election cycle as an opportunity to "correct a historical oversight" by supporting a candidate from Akure North.
According to the group, such a move would promote unity, restore public confidence, and strengthen democratic values in the constituency.
The group also called on APC leaders in the state to prioritize equity in their decision-making, noting that backing a credible candidate from Akure North would enhance grassroots inclusion and broaden the party’s support base.
Opomulero Movement said it remains committed to advocating fairness and equal political opportunities, stressing the need to "break the 28-year jinx" of what it termed uneven representation in the Akure Federal Constituency.
