The Rector, Kaduna Polytechnic, Dr. Suleiman Umar, has warned new students to steer clear of cultism, drug abuse, examination malpractice and other social vices, stressing that the institution has zero tolerance for indiscipline.

Umar gave the warning yesterday during the matriculation for the 2025/2026 academic session held at the polytechnic’s main campus in Kaduna.

Represented by the Deputy Rector (Academic), Dr. Grace Jamila Bila, the Rector said of 21,788 candidates who applied for admission, only 17,103 were offered placement, describing their admission as a rare privilege that must be matched with diligence and good conduct.

He urged the students to prioritise academic excellence by attending lectures regularly, participating actively in practical sessions and maximising the use of laboratories, workshops and library facilities.

“Admission is only the beginning; your success here depends on your commitment to academic diligence, discipline and ethical conduct,” he added.

Umar warned that the institution would not condone any form of misconduct, including cultism, violence, sexual harassment and examination malpractice.

“Cultism, drug abuse, examination malpractice, sexual harassment, violence and all forms of social vices have no place in this institution. Any involvement will attract severe sanctions, including rustication or outright expulsion,” he said.

The Rector, however, assured the students of the polytechnic’s commitment to their welfare through counselling services, accessible health facilities, sports development and other student support programmes designed to enhance their academic and personal growth.

He urged the new students to regard the matriculation oath as a solemn pledge to uphold the core values of integrity, hard work and mutual respect, and to strive to graduate as worthy ambassadors of the institution.
