The Seriki Fulani of Lagos, Mohammad Abubakar Bambado II, alongside leaders of the Arewa community, has dismissed reports of the alleged suspension of the State Chairman, Engineer Saadu Yusuf Dandare Gulma, describing it as unfounded.

The position was made known during a stakeholder meeting held on Thursday to address the issue.

Bambado II stated that the reported suspension is invalid, directing community members to continue working with Gulma and maintain unity. He emphasised the need to preserve stability within the leadership structure and avoid internal discord.

This development follows reports that some community members submitted a petition calling for the chairman’s suspension.

Also speaking, Mai Kano Lawal, Director of the Arewa Community Support Group 2023, maintained that Saadu Gulma's leadership remains intact.

Similarly, Alhaji Ibraheem Tanko Haruna, Arewa Apex Leader West 2, reaffirmed the collective position of community leaders, underscoring their support for the current leadership and the need for cohesion among members.

“There are some internal issues within the Arewa Community APC which we need to resolve.

“Some people decided to take the law into their hands, which we will not allow.

“I am a member of the Board of Trustees (BoT). If there are any issues, the BoT needs to be informed, and they will make a decision on such issues they bring before them.

“Now, according to the source, there is a letter written to suspend the Chairman of the Arewa APC, Alhaji Saadu Gulma, of which we, the BoT, are not aware and will not accept.

“There is no chairman that has the power or authority to suspend him because he is the overall Chairman of the APC in Lagos state. If there are any issues, I think it is the Board of Trustees that will take charge.

“If it is to dissolve the exco or suspend him, we are the only people who can do that.

“We have instructed whosoever wrote that letter to go and retrieve it and write another one affirming Alhaji Saadu Gulma remains the Chairman of Arewa Community in APC Lagos State.

“We have summoned all those who wrote the letter, on Saturday we are going to meet with them again to give them a strong warning.

“In anything you are doing, there is a constitution, and you must follow due process; without it, nothing can be done.

Also, a stakeholder, Alhaji Dandama, added that division is not allowed in the Arewa fold.

“We agreed that Alhaji Saadu Gulma remains Chairman Arewa APC Lagos, both the person in charge of campaigns and the headship of Arewa APC are to work together—no division.”

In his response to the rumoured suspension, Engineer Sa’adu Dandare Gulma said that till his tenure ends, he remains the APC Arewa Community Chairman.

“The major resolution we reached with our leaders and fathers in Arewa Community and the Seriki in Lagos is that we maintain the status quo.

“After the expiration of every Chairman’s tenure, there will be an election; now, my tenure is not yet finished.

“The leaders all agreed that we will conduct an election after my tenure, and the suspension is null and void; there is no suspension.”

“They call us to drop our interest and focus on that of the Arewa Community in Lagos.

“We have reached the end of all this acrimony, and by Saturday, we are going to meet with them, the trustee, chairmen, and exco, to ensure the matter is over.

“They are going to write the relevant authorities they wrote to before to counter what they have said before. Everybody is on board now.”
