The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on Monday arrested a truck driver for wrong-way driving following a road traffic crash along the Lekki inward Marwa axis, Victoria Island.
In a statement, LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq said the incident involved a mini flat-body truck and a dispatch motorcycle rider, who sustained serious injuries after the truck reportedly drove against the designated one-way traffic flow and crashed into the rider’s lane.
According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the truck driver flagrantly violated traffic regulations by navigating the road in the wrong direction, leading to the collision. The impact of the crash left the dispatch rider badly injured and caused a temporary traffic disruption along the busy corridor.

The truck driver was arrested at the scene and handed over to officers of the Maroko Police Division for further investigation and prosecution. Authorities also discovered that the truck had no visible registration number, further aggravating the offence.
The damaged vehicles were later removed, and normal traffic flow was restored along the affected route.
Reacting to the incident, LASTMA reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property on Lagos roads, warning motorists—particularly truck and commercial vehicle operators—against the dangerous practice of wrong-way driving.
The agency urged all road users to obey traffic laws and report violations through official channels, stressing that collective vigilance is essential to ensuring a safer and more orderly traffic environment across the state.
