No fewer than 200 residents of Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State have benefited from an empowerment programme initiated by the council chairman, Hon. Mutiu Mohammed.

The beneficiaries, drawn from various communities across the council, received items such as motorcycles, sewing machines, refrigerators, grinding machines, solar engine pumps, knapsack sprayers, herbicides, air dryers, charcoal cookers, and laptops, as well as cash grants.

Speaking during the programme, the Executive Chairman of the council, Alhaji Mohammed Mutiu Olawale, said the initiative was driven by his commitment to improving the lives of people at the grassroots.

He noted that governance should be centred on giving hope to the people, stressing that the empowerment programme was designed to reduce unemployment and promote self-reliance.

“This is just phase one; we are already looking ahead to phases two, three, and four, by God’s grace,” he said.

The chairman added that some beneficiaries, particularly fashion designers, had undergone 24 months of training in artisanship sponsored by the local government and were now being equipped with tools and start-up funds to begin their businesses.

He expressed optimism that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would emerge victorious in the 2027 general elections, describing the party as widely accepted across the country.

Also speaking, the President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Fredrick Akinrinlola, commended the council boss for the initiative, describing it as a reflection of effective grassroots governance.

He said the programme, which cost millions of naira, demonstrated the chairman’s commitment to the welfare of the people, adding that the state government had remained supportive of workers’ welfare.

In his remarks, the APC Local Government Chairman, Hon. Saliu Mumuni, said the area had witnessed significant development under the current administration and urged stakeholders to maintain unity for sustained progress.

Some beneficiaries, including Elizabeth Ibrahim and Alao Caroline, expressed appreciation, describing the intervention as timely support that would improve their livelihoods.
