In a departure from the usual flowers and chocolates narrative that defines Valentine’s Day, AIICO Insurance Plc took its message of love and responsibility to the streets, engaging young Nigerians in conversations that blended fun with financial awareness.

Partnering with street influencer Kabiyesi, the insurer visited university campuses where students participated in lively interviews anchored on a simple but profound question: How far would you go to protect the ones you love?

The Head, Digital Marketing & Communication, AIICO Insurance Plc, Segun Olalandu, in a statement said several undergraduates paid glowing tributes to their parents, particularly their mothers.

He said: “One student said his mother had “sacrificed everything” for him and vowed to secure her future once he starts earning. Another noted that protecting his family would be his first priority when financial stability comes.

“Though the atmosphere was upbeat complete with banter and Valentine-themed giveaways — the underlying message was serious: love goes beyond romance and grand gestures; it demands responsibility and planning”.

AIICO’s Brand Manager, Oluremi John, said the initiative was designed to redefine the essence of Valentine’s Day.

“For us at AIICO, Valentine’s Day is about more than romance. It is about showing love in practical ways by protecting the people and things that matter most. Insurance is one of the most effective ways to achieve that.

“In keeping with Kabiyesi’s energetic style, students were also asked what they would insure if money were not a constraint. Many responded without hesitation with “my mum,” “my entire family,” and even “my small business.” Some declared they would “pay any price” to shield loved ones from life’s uncertainties.

“Beyond entertainment, the campaign served an educational purpose. AIICO representatives used the opportunity to explain the basics of insurance, address common misconceptions, and demonstrate its relevance to young adults beginning their financial journeys.

“One participant admitted that many young people see insurance as something meant for older individuals but conceded that planning ahead makes sense, especially when love and family are involved”, he added.

He stressed that with over six decades of operations in Nigeria, AIICO continues to explore innovative ways to connect with younger demographics.

The Valentine activation also aligns with the company’s refreshed brand identity aimed at resonating with youthful ambition and evolving lifestyles.By taking its advocacy to the streets, the insurer reinforced its commitment to deepening insurance awareness and promoting a culture of protection among the youth, John added.
