The Executive Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde, and the Director General of the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA), Dr. Debo Akande, has unveiled plans for establishment of "Ibadan Historical Library and Hall of Fame".
He said the step was aimed at preserving the rich cultural heritage and documenting contributions of notable sons and daughters of Ibadanland.

The project was formally launched during a foundation and groundbreaking ceremony at Bode Amoo Hall, Ibadan House, Oke-Aremo, Ibadan, under the auspices of the 2026 Historical Tour Committee.
Akande described the initiative as a long-conceived vision driven by his desire to contribute a lasting legacy to the state and ensure that the history of Ibadan is properly preserved for future generations.
He said: "This is something that has been very paramount in my mind for a long time. It is not just about today; it is about creating a legacy that will stand the test of time."
Akande expressed concerns over what he described as a growing disconnect between younger generations and the history of Ibadan, noting that many youths are unaware of the city’s significant contributions to Yoruba and national development.
“If you ask a young person today about key figures in Ibadan’s history, many may not be able to provide answers. Yet, Ibadan has produced individuals who have made remarkable contributions across different sectors, both locally and internationally."

He explained that the Hall of Fame would serve as a museum and knowledge hub where the achievements of past rulers, warriors, professionals, and other distinguished indigenes would be documented and showcased.
“Where is this history documented? Where can people go to see what our heroes have done and when they did it? This project is about answering those questions and preserving our identity as a people."
President-General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, Chief (Barr.) Sulaiman Ajewole, said the project was conceived to immortalise the legacies of Ibadan’s heroes and heroines.
He noted that the idea of a Hall of Fame was initiated by a subcommittee on historical matters within the council, stressing that it would serve as a platform to honour past rulers, warriors, philanthropists, politicians, and community leaders.
“This is how we preserve our history. By documenting and celebrating those who have contributed to the growth of Ibadan, we are ensuring that their names are not forgotten."
He commended Akande for taking up the responsibility of facilitating the project, describing him as a worthy ambassador of Ibadanland.
Adewale however expressed optimism that the project would be completed within a short time, adding that it would stand as a major cultural landmark in the city.
