The President/Coordinator of Kehinde Oshilaja Foundation, Comrade Kehinde Oshilaja, has called for supervision and transparent disbursement of funds allocated to persons living with disabilities.

He said this during a pre-Ramadan lecture organised by the foundation at the weekend in Ebute-Metta, Lagos, where members gathered to reflect on faith, unity and social responsibility.

He said government allocations meant for people living with disabilities must be properly monitored to ensure they reached the intended beneficiaries.

“It is only when there is proper supervision, accountability and full disbursement of allocations meant for people living with disabilities that the desired impact can be felt among the helpless and the vulnerable in our society,” Oshilaja said.

According to him, ‘’without effective monitoring mechanisms and feedback systems, government’s efforts and interventions may not yield meaningful results for the target group.’’

The foundation, lauding Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his consistency in supporting the welfare of the less-privileged, stressed the need for sustained oversight to ensure materials and financial support reached those for whom they were intended.

The event also served as a platform to promote religious harmony as Nigeria prepares for Ramadan and the Lenten season.

Sheikh Abu Adisa advised Nigerians to embrace unity and peaceful coexistence, stressing that Muslims and Christians shared common values rooted in love and compassion.

“Muslims and Christians are one. We should not fight or kill one another. Instead, we should live together in peace and mutual respect,” he said.

Mr Oluwole Owolabi, a physically-challenged member of the foundation, noted that the coincidence of Ramadan and Lent this year carried a strong spiritual message.

“The fact that Ramadan and Lent are happening at the same time shows God has a purpose for all of us, Muslims and Christians alike,” Owolabi said. “This is a time for reflection, compassion and greater care for the less-privileged and persons living with disabilities.”

The event was concluded with prayers for national unity and renewed calls for inclusive policies that prioritise the welfare and dignity of persons living with disabilities across the country.
