Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has described the death of Senator representing Rivers South-East, Barinada Mpigi, as a loss to the Ogoni people, Rivers State and the nation.

Mpigi died last week at 64 after a brief illness.

In a statement issued in London by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike, who led a delegation of Rivers leaders to condole with the senator’s wife, Patricia Mpigi, and her children, described the deceased as “a dependable ally who stood by his friends, even in trying times.”

He assured the family of support and a befitting burial.

“We are here as a delegation sent by the leader of Rivers State…We were asked to see you before you return home.

“Your husband was a strong pillar in Rivers politics. When he said he was your friend, he stood by you through thick and thin. It is unfortunate that this is the period we needed him most, but we cannot question God.

“There is nothing we can say that will bring him back. God gives and takes. We pray he grants you and all of us the strength to bear this loss. We will not forget Bari. We will play our part to ensure he is accorded a befitting burial,” said Wike.

The minister was accompanied by Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule; Senators Magnus Abe, Allwell Onyesoh and Olaka Nwogu; Rivers PDP Chairman Aaron Chukwuemeka; Felix Nweke; Kenneth Chikere; and Hon. Dum Deekor.

Responding, Mrs. Mpigi thanked the minister and the delegation for their support.
