The United States has commended the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) for its preparedness ahead of the delivery of AH-1Z attack helicopters.
Leader of a U.S. delegation from PMA-276, Robert Galan, gave the commendation during a three-day engagement with senior NAF officials at the service headquarters in Abuja.
On January 6, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, led a programme management review meeting with senior U.S. officials and representatives of Bell Textron in San Diego, California, to fast-track the acquisition of 12 AH-1Z helicopters.
Aneke thanked the U.S. Government and Bell Textron for their cooperation and professionalism in executing the programme, noting that the structured review reflected the NAF’s focus on discipline, accountability and results. He described the acquisition as not only a platform upgrade but also a reflection of enduring Nigeria-U.S. defence cooperation.

The helicopters are part of the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen the NAF’s operational capacity in counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations.
In a statement, NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said the latest meeting focused on a comprehensive Programme and Support Plan to ensure seamless integration and operational readiness of the incoming fleet.
Represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Abubakar Abdullahi, the CAS reaffirmed the NAF’s commitment to meeting all operational, technical and logistics requirements ahead of delivery.
“The engagement underscores the steady advancement of Nigeria-United States defence cooperation, anchored on mutual trust and shared security objectives,” the statement said.
It added that the collaboration would strengthen Nigeria’s air power capability and national security architecture.
