Youth in the Ogun West Senatorial District have revealed their resolve to support a consensus-driven bid to wrest the state's governorship for the district in 2027.

The declaration emerged from a stakeholders' engagement and town hall meeting convened by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ogun West chapter, under the stewardship of its State Vice Chairman, Comrade Kehinde Damilola Olorunjubelo.

The meeting was held on March 22, 2026, at the Recreation Innovation Hub, Recreation Club, Ilaro.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the participants spoke with one voice on the imperative of unity, issuing a pointed warning against internal dissonance and divisive tendencies capable of undermining the district's collective goal.

Central to the forum's resolutions was an unambiguous commitment to a consensus-based approach to the 2027 governorship race,  one anchored on the emergence of a broadly acceptable candidate from within Ogun West.

The youths argued, with considerable force, that such cohesion was indispensable to enhancing the district's bargaining power within the wider architecture of Ogun State politics.

Deliberations equally underscored the strategic importance of projecting a shared identity to bridge the Yewa and Awori constituencies of the district.

The forum added that inclusive messaging would not only broaden support but also dismantle lingering sentiments of marginalisation that have historically complicated the district's political aspirations.

Traditional rulers and community leaders were also recognised as pivotal to the strategy, with the meeting affirming that their influence on grassroots opinion and political direction remains an asset too significant to overlook.

Reaffirming its institutional neutrality, NYCN Ogun West declared that it would remain non-partisan as a body while creating space for individual members to pursue political engagement freely, provided such activities do not fracture collective unity.
