The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed that one person died while three others sustained serious injuries in a road crash involving a truck and a commercial tricycle at Aiyetoro Junction in Epe, Lagos.

The incident, which occurred along the traffic light corridor of the junction, involved a truck loaded with yams and a tricycle.

In a statement, LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq said that the truck with registration number AGL 764 XB was travelling from Ijebu-Ode when the driver attempted to make a U-turn towards Eleko at the junction. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and rammed into a stationary tricycle with registration number SMK 127 QR.

The impact, he said, claimed one life instantly, while three occupants of the tricycle sustained severe injuries.

LASTMA noted that its officials, who were on routine traffic management duties around the area, swiftly responded to the scene and rescued the trapped victims from the wreckage.

They also worked alongside the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigeria Police Force, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and military personnel.

The injured victims and the deceased were later transported by FRSC officials to General Hospital, Epe, for medical treatment and other necessary procedures.

Security agencies also maintained order at the scene during the rescue operation and helped restore normal traffic flow along the busy corridor.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for the peaceful repose of the victim.

Bakare-Oki also wished the injured victims a quick recovery and called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident, stressing that anyone found responsible should face appropriate legal consequences.
