•Cautions against hard drugs

The Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, His Majesty Orhue I, Major Gen. Felix Mujakperuo (rtd) has cautioned residents against the indiscriminate sale of ancestral lands, urging them instead to lease such properties in order to safeguard the heritage of future generations.

The monarch gave the warning on March 7, at Amukpe District in Sapele, Delta State, during a kingdom-wide familiarisation programme ahead of activities to mark his 20th coronation anniversary.

“God has given us land; if you do not take care of it, you will become a slave in your own land. I have told our people to lease our land and not sell it,” the royal father said.

According to him, leasing land rather than selling it outright was the practice in the past, warning that the continued sale of land could rob future generations of their inheritance.

The Orodje also condemned the growing use of hard drugs among youths in the kingdom, warning that traditional sanctions would be imposed on offenders.

“For those taking hard drugs, we are going to lay curses on them, both those selling and those patronising them,” he declared.

Speaking on his visit, he said: “This is the twentieth year I was crowned king of Okpe Kingdom, and it is good I visit my people to know how they are doing and hear their challenges.”

He disclosed that he had earlier visited Aragba and Aghalokpe communities and would continue the tour to Ugboren, Ozue, Elume and Emereje districts before the anniversary celebration.
