From Kolade Adeyemi, Jos

The Plateau State Police Command has arrested two individuals linked with the spread of fake news on social media, alongside 21 suspected members of the notorious Sara-Suka cult group accused of terrorising residents in the Jos-Bukuru metropolis.

In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, said the arrests were made under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP. Bassey Ewah.

According to the statement, the suspects behind a viral TikTok video that circulated earlier in March have been apprehended. The video, posted via the handle @townboii1, allegedly contained inciting comments capable of causing unrest in the state.

Police identified the suspects as Mohammed Shuaibu Adam, 16, and Auwal Ilyas Abdullahi, 19, both residents of Rikkos, Jos. The Command said the duo confessed to the offence during interrogation and would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

In a related development, the Command disclosed that 21 suspected members of the Sara-Suka cult syndicate were arrested during coordinated patrol and raid operations across various parts of the Jos-Bukuru metropolis.

The operations, according to the police, were part of intensified security measures directed by the Commissioner of Police to curb criminal activities and ensure a peaceful Ramadan period in Plateau State.

“The suspects are currently undergoing thorough investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and will soon be charged to court for prosecution,” the statement added.

CP Ewah commended officers involved in the operations for their dedication and urged them to sustain the momentum in tackling crime across the state.

He also reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.

The police further called on members of the public to remain calm and continue their lawful activities without fear, assuring that adequate security measures are in place.

Residents were advised to report emergencies to the nearest police station or contact the Command through its designated emergency lines.
