The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two staff members of the Nigerian Railway Corporation over the alleged assault of a lecturer at the University of Ibadan, Dr. Mikail Abdulsalam.

The suspects were apprehended on Wednesday by officers from the Moniya Division in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, following an incident at the Obafemi Awolowo Railway Station.

Dr. Abdulsalam, a lecturer in the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, had reportedly gone to the station to drop off his sister, who was travelling to Lagos by rail.

Sources said the incident occurred shortly after he stopped his vehicle at the premises.

Witnesses alleged that despite remaining calm, the lecturer was confronted and assaulted by some staff of the corporation. The matter was subsequently reported at the Moniya Division of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the arrests.

He stated that two suspects are currently in custody, while a third individual allegedly involved in the incident is at large.

“The suspects are in custody. Two of them. The third suspect ran away,” he said.
