The lawmaker representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Solomon Adeola, has urged the electorate not to allow religious sentiment influence their choice of leaders.

He stressed the need to prioritise unity and development.

Adeola noted that Ogun State had long been known for religious tolerance and harmony, and called on residents to shun religious bias while embracing peaceful coexistence.

The senator made the appeal during his 3rd Annual Ramadan Lecture organised in honour of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State yesterday.

The event attracted leaders of the League of Imams and Alfas from the four zones of the state, political leaders and stakeholders, market women as well as members of trade associations.

Adeola, popularly known as ‘Yayi’, said the lecture was organised to appreciate God and offer prayers for the country and Ogun State.

He said although he is a devout Christian, he has consistently supported Islamic causes, noting that he has sponsored over 1,000 Muslim faithful to Mecca for the Holy Pilgrimage over the years.

The senator urged residents, regardless of their faith or belief, to resist politicians who exploit religious divisions for political gain.

Delivering the Ramadan lecture, a renowned Islamic cleric, Sheikh Jamiu Sanusi, popularly known as “Ami Olohun,” advised the senator to be wary of political sycophants, who could mislead him in decision-making. Commending Adeola for his contributions to the development of Ogun State, the cleric advised him to rely on God rather than human beings in his political journey.

Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Iziaq Salako, lauded President Tinubu for his determination to reposition Nigeria.
