Receiving the defectors on behalf of the state government, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa said their decision was a significant boost to the APC ahead of the 2027 general election.
The governor, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Legislative and Party Matters, Babatunde Kolawole, said the defection further underscored the growing strength of the APC across Ondo State.
He commended the party leaders and stakeholders in the local council for their commitment to the growth of the APC, describing the defection as the end of meaningful opposition in the Irele Local Council Area.
Aiyedatiwa urged the new members to work closely with party leaders to strengthen the party’s structure and enhance its electoral prospects.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Segun Omoyofunmi, advised the defectors to integrate fully into the party at the ward and local government levels.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Hon. Anjorin said internal disputes within the PDP informed their decision to defect to the APC.
