In a move aimed at boosting skills acquisition and economic growth, the lawmaker representing Somolu II Constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Samuel Apata, has empowered over 350 constituents who participated in a two-month vocational training programme.
The scheme trained beneficiaries in wig making, fashion designing, paint making, makeup, food processing, catering and barbing.
Participants received vocational tools relevant to their training. Barbers got complete barbing kits, food processors received grinding machines, while fashion designers were given sewing machines, among others.
Eight mini-buses were also distributed to beneficiaries to ease mobility challenges and promote commercial activities.

The event attracted prominent dignitaries, including a member of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Senator Anthony Adefuye; Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mrs. Lasbat Meranda; former Chairman of Bariga Local Council, Hon. Alabi Kolade David; and Chairman of Bariga Local Council, Hon. Adedeji Bukola Omope.
Apata reiterated his commitment to people-oriented projects and sustained support for constituents.
He described the empowerment programme as part of a broader development agenda across the constituency, adding that his legislative activities reflected his dedication to effective representation.
Senator Adefuye commended Apata, describing the empowerment initiative as unprecedented. He urged beneficiaries to make good use of the items and encouraged the lawmaker to sustain his efforts.
Adefuye also announced the endorsement of Apata by the constituency’s apex leadership for re-election.
Deputy Speaker Meranda congratulated the beneficiaries and praised Apata for equipping constituents with practical skills for sustainable livelihoods.
Beneficiaries described the intervention as timely and impactful.
Apata has also picked his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms, signalling his intention to seek re-election.
He said a second term would enable him to consolidate on achievements recorded in education, infrastructure, social welfare and empowerment.
