From Ogochukwu Anioke, Abakaliki

Umahi Says

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has said the South-East geopolitical zone now occupies its rightful place in the affairs of Nigeria under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Umahi said the President had addressed long-standing concerns about marginalisation in the region by ensuring greater inclusion of the South-East in national development initiatives.

He made the remarks at the weekend while inspecting ongoing federal government projects in Ebonyi State that link neighbouring states such as Cross River, Benue and others across the federation.

Among the projects inspected were the Onueke first section of the 465-kilometre Trans-Sahara Super Highway, where a 25-span bridge measuring about 700 metres is under construction, the Onueke–Afikpo Highway, Afikpo–Ndibe Beach Road, the Ebonyi–Cross River Beach Bridge, and the Amasiri–Okigwe Highway.

According to Umahi, the current administration has made significant investments in infrastructure in the South-East, which he said demonstrates the federal government’s commitment to the region.

He urged residents of the zone to show appreciation by supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid in next year’s presidential election.

"Mr. President has done so much for South East and I want you people to broadcast what he is doing for us.

"Let our people that are not here who are in social media know that the tide is changed and we are now counted and we are now at the right position in the affairs of the nation Nigeria.

"So, no more bitterness, no more venominus statements but appreciation so that we get more just like other regions who appreciates and they get more. So, lets appreciate and get more and support the President re-election", he said.

Umahi, a former governor of Ebonyi State declared that he will play very significant role in the campaign for the president during the electioneering period as someone who has transversed all nooks and crannies of the country supervising the President projects for the people of the country.

He said the campaign will not not affect the projects as according to him, he will be campaigning for the president and be supervising the projects.

"Construction is part of my life and that's what makes me happy and keeps me fit. So, I will attend campaign, I will attend project supervision.

"So, the two will be combined and that's why I am chasing the ministry of Works staff so that we do all the needful before the campaign will start because I will play very significant role during campaign because I have transversed all the space of the country and I can attest to what the President is doing.

" Even if I wake up from sleep, I can always say this is what the President has done for each of the states or regions.

"Let me commend the Governor of the state very highly. He is the one that paid the compensation of this place because it was isolated and it was awarded before now.

"So, the governor completely paid for this, even Enugu/Abakaliki expressway dualization going on, he is the one that paid the compensation. Without that, it would have been very difficult because where the contractor has not been mobilized, there is no way he have money to pay compensation", the Minister said.
