A support group, the Asiwaju Mandate Group (AGM), has begun mobilising women across Ondo State in support of the re-election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group, backed by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, said the initiative aims to sensitise women in all 18 local government areas of the state on the achievements of President Tinubu administration and the need for continuity.
Speaking at a programme in Akure on Thursday, the women’s wing coordinator of the group, Mrs Yetunde Adeyanju, described women as a critical voting bloc capable of shaping electoral outcomes.
Mrs Adeyanju, a former commissioner in the state, said the group had intensified efforts to galvanise support among women, noting that they play influential roles in homes and communities.
She disclosed that the group is targeting 95 per cent of votes from women across the 203 wards in Ondo State.
According to her, the Tinubu administration has implemented programmes that directly impact women, making it necessary to consolidate the gains through re-election.
"Our mandate is to mobilise Ondo State women for the re-election of our president. We are meeting with coordinators across the 203 wards, and we will soon move across local governments to engage more women," she said.
Mrs Adeyanju added that the group would embark on ward-to-ward sensitisation campaigns, engage market women’s associations, and partner with community leaders to expand its reach in both rural and urban areas.
Also speaking, a leader of the group from the Central Senatorial District, Mrs Erelu Olayemi Ajonibode, said the mobilisation drive had been ongoing since last year.
"We have women leaders across the 18 local governments and the 203 wards. We have identified those who will work with us to ensure success in 2027," she said.
In his remarks, the Director-General of the group, Muyiwa Asagunla, said the women’s wing had already begun grassroots mobilisation across the senatorial districts.
Mr Asagunla expressed confidence in the group’s ability to deliver significant votes for the president in the state, noting the influence of women in religious centres, markets, and households.
"They (women) are doing great and they have started mobilizing across all the senatorial districts, they have done their meeting in the central and planning for the north.
"We have to encourage them, to keep the flag high, they have the pass to give Asiwaju Bola Tinubu 95% votes in Ondo state, women are there in the church, mosques, markets and all over the place, they are the owner of the house, they can convince their husband
"So, We are giving them all the support for the electioneering mobilization, campaign, they should go on to tell our women what to benefit from Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu."
He, however, added that the group would continue to support mobilisation efforts ahead of the party primaries and the general elections, urging members to highlight the benefits of government policies to women.
