The Ondo state government has described the recent killings of residents in Woro community, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara state, as painful, disturbing, and a grim reminder of the security challenges confronting the nation.

The attackers last week struck Woro and neighbouring Nuku communities, killing scores of innocent residents and injuring many others.

The Red Cross in Kwara State put the casualty figure at 162, with several victims currently receiving medical attention in hospitals.

In a statement on Monday by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, the Ondo state government expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the government and people of Kwara State, particularly the affected families.

Ajanaku said the state government sympathises with Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the people of Woro community, and all those who lost loved ones in the attack, assuring them of the state’s solidarity at this difficult time.

He added that the government prayed for the repose of the souls of the victims and asked God to grant comfort and strength to the bereaved families, while wishing those injured a speedy recovery.

"The Government of Ondo State has expressed deep sorrow and heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Kwara State over the unfortunate attack in Woro community, which led to the loss of innocent lives and disruption of peace.

"The Government and people of Ondo State sympathize with His Excellency, the Governor of Kwara State, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq, the affected families, and the entire people of Woro, noting that Ondo State stands in solidarity with Kwara State at this difficult time," the statement said.

Ajanaku also reaffirmed its commitment to peace, unity, and collective action against violence, warning that such criminal acts must not be allowed to undermine national cohesion and public safety.

He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the swift deployment of a battalion of military personnel to the affected areas, describing the move as crucial to restoring peace and preventing further attacks.

"Ondo State Government prays for the repose of the souls of the victims and asks God to grant comfort, strength, and healing to the bereaved families, while wishing those injured a speedy and full recovery.

"Ondo State Government reaffirmed its commitment to peace, unity, and collective action against all forms of violence, stressing that such acts must not be allowed to undermine national cohesion and the safety of communities.

"The state government also commended the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for deploying a battalion of military personnel to the affected areas."

Ajanaku, however, called for sustained collaboration among federal and state authorities to address insecurity and ensure the protection of lives and property across the country.
