The Director-General of the Tinubu Youth Vanguard Organisation (TYVO), Hon. Innocent Shedrach Egede, has condemned the disruption of a youth empowerment rally organised by the City Boy Movement in Owerri, Imo State.

The empowerment programme was disrupted in Owerri on Saturday when participants and some locals stormed the venue. The disruption reportedly triggered a stampede and looting of items meant for distribution to youths across the south-east.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, Francis Shoga, the movement’s director-general, confirmed the disruption at the rally, adding that it was swiftly brought under control, with no fatalities or missing persons recorded.

Reacting to the development, Egede described the incident as “unfortunate, unpatriotic, and detrimental to youth development efforts across the South-East,” stressing that such actions undermine genuine initiatives aimed at empowering young Nigerians.

“It is disheartening that an event organised to uplift our youths and promote economic inclusion was sabotaged by acts of disorder. Such behaviour discourages developmental programmes and deprives many deserving youths of the opportunities intended for them,” he said.

He urged Nigerians to embrace peace, cooperation, and civic responsibility during public programmes. He emphasised that empowerment initiatives should be protected and supported rather than politicised or disrupted.

Egede further appealed for calm and patience among citizens, calling on Nigerians to appreciate the ongoing socio-economic reforms being implemented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“Nation-building requires patience, unity, and collective sacrifice. The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is implementing policies aimed at long-term economic recovery and sustainable prosperity for all Nigerians,” he added.

He also called on relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure that future empowerment initiatives are conducted in a peaceful and secure environment that allows beneficiaries to fully access the support intended for them.
